Knowledge for Business (K4B) for BRE B16. The principal aim of this project is to develop an electronic control ‘ecosystem’ which captures information from a number of DC (later AC) generation, monitoring, control and consumption devices and uses these to optimize the overall system performance against a number of criteria.

The principal aim of this project is to develop an electronic control ‘ecosystem’ which captures information from a number of DC (later AC) generation, monitoring, control and consumption devices and uses these to optimize the overall system performance against a number of criteria – a control algorithm. As part of the control interface, the system may utilize a cloud service aggregation platform developed as part of another project – SASH – A completed TSB funded project lead by BRE in partnership with UH.

The final outcome from the project will be better use of electrical (it may also be extrapolated to thermal) energy:

  1. Allow for the more efficient use of electrical energy and hence reduces grid carbon
  2. Better use of locally generated PV electricity
  3. Potentially lower cost ‘spot’ electricity for those in fuel poverty
  4. Better thermally efficient buildings

Better controlling the way we use energy, especially electrical, will have large economic, environmental and social benefits in the future.
